History of Cape Coral
Cape Coral is new city, located just west of Fort Myers. The land was originally known as “the other side of the river.” In the late 1950s, two brothers, Jack and Leonard Rosen, purchased 103 square miles of land, known as Redfish Point for just under $680,000. This “Waterfront Wonderland” was quickly developed and in just a few short years, the new Cape Coral Bridge was opened, allowing a flood of commerce into the area. This land was promoted heavily to people looking for Florida living, and was sold through mail order, radio ads, television, and print media. You could purchase a water view home for $990!
Cape Coral became an incorporated city in 1970, and had a population of 11,500. This made Cape Coral the third largest landmass city in Florida.
